Recommended Spots: The Bread Room

The Bread Room is a Philly-based bakery, workshop, and event location created by Ellen Yin, a Philadelphia-based restauranteur who focuses on supporting women in the culinary and hospitality industry. They have many handmade pastries and baked goods to choose from, as well as breakfast and lunch options. Be sure to check out some of Ellen Yin’s other endeavors including Fork, a.kitchen+bar, and The Wonton Project!

We stopped by The Bread Room, a cozy bakery on Chestnut and 9th for a treat and a book club date!

They had so many pastries to choose from, with both savory and sweet treats.

We made sure to bring everything necessary…especially our TRAEVELER’S notebook to document our experience.

There was plenty of space for us to spread out our books and annotating materials! As well as our treats and beverages of course.

If you’re looking for a meal too, they have quite the delicious breakfast options. We tried the breakfast plate and really enjoyed the cheese selections.

To drink we ordered an iced mocha and an oat latte which were nice balanced options to go with our meal.

We started our activities for the day, and spent some time annotating books together.

The book we’re currently working through is A Love Story from the End of the World by Juhea Kim, with an interesting short story collection involving environmental fiction.

We tried their cookies too! Make sure to check out the rye chocolate chip and the miso tahini cookies while you’re there.

Make sure you pack a small pouch for your on the go essentials. We used this one to pack away stamps, memo pads, stickers, and pens!

Before you leave you can check out the merchandise they have! We really liked the typography designs on their t-shirts and tote bags. At night they also host sourdough 101, lamination, and pizza making classes!

Check out The Bread Room on their website and Instagram!

Their address is 834 Chestnut St, Suite 103, Philadelphia, PA 19107
