This Weeks features two bunnies blowing bubbles in soft lighting. Picture book artist Akiko Miyakoshi collaborated with Hobonichi Techo 2027. About five years ago, she moved to the foothills of the Yatsugatake Mountains in Nagano Prefecture, where she now creates her work in a studio converted from a former tailor’s shop.
From the artist Akiko Miyakoshi: "A spring scene from when my eldest daughter was about two, playing with a new friend she had made. I wanted to capture the happiness of making a friend so soon after we had moved, and the joy of spring’s arrival. The way the spring light filled everything that day was so beautiful, and it really stayed with me. That light was what I wanted to recreate.
It has that grainy texture you get with old film photographs, and at first glance, you can’t quite tell what colors you’re looking at. I thought it would be interesting to take the impression those colors left on me and turn it into a lithograph."
