We’re reeling a bit from the realization that summer is over and things like impulsive trips out of town to see friends must give way to planning and preparing for holiday obligations.
In the shop, the displays are starting to bulk up with cozy slippers, woodsy scented candles, and stacks of 2023 planners, and we’re taking advantage of the mellow days to dust the floorboards and re-hang the art. Busy season will be here before we know it!
This season’s playlist is all about collecting one’s thoughts before facing holiday madness head on, opening with some jazz and J-pop that pairs well with coffee, including a much anticipated new album release from SKINSHAPE and single from CHIAKI SATO. Two indie-soul tracks from YAYA BEY and YELLOW DAYS have been keeping me moving every time they come on in the store, and "Dissipation" from the new album by DECA JOINS is satisfying an itch for an autumn indie ballad.
I just recently learned about DINA ÖGONS from my favorite WPRB radio show on Thursday mornings (Not Your Mother’s Dance Party w Andi), an act out of Sweden that captures some of the ennui of the changing seasons, along with a new track from DUNGEN, which now that I think of it, may have inspired my recent deep-dive through The Cardigans back catalog.
I see so much chatter about 90’s and 00’s nostalgia, and music is no exception with GREENTEA PENG and BALMING TIGER, two psychedelic new releases that are reminiscent of Omoi staff faves like Sneaker Pimps and Underworld. And what better time than a new burgeoning global recession to hear from BLOOD ORANGE and PARAMORE that sang us through the last one in 2008. As always, please support your local record shops, radio stations, and musicians that carry us through these seasons and decades and periods of change.
Cheers~ Liz
