Jugetsudo's Nature matcha is matcha in its purest form: fresh, 100% organic powdered green tea for early mornings and afternoon pick-me-ups. Nature matcha is grown at an altitude of 2000-feet, in a valley called “The Village in the Sky” in Shizuoka, where the temperature rises during the day and cools down during the night. This dramatic swing in temperature imbues the tea leaves with a rich and flavorful umami.
How to brew: Boil water to 80 degrees celsius. Add a teaspoon of matcha powder to a matcha bowl. Pour water into a plain cup, then re-pour the cup of water into the matcha bowl (this will cool down the water slightly and ensure the tea does not become bitter). Whisk the matcha with the water using a bamboo matcha whisk, in a zigzag motion. Drink immediately, sipping directly from the bowl.
The Japanese tea shop Jugetsudo was founded in 1980 by Maruyama Nori, a nori (dried seaweed) merchant. The word jugetsudo can be understood as “the place from where one looks at the moon.” When we look at the moon, we become humble and truly appreciate its eternal beauty. The Jugetsudo tea house offers the bounty of nature through their high-quality tea. More than 160 years of tradition and experience pursuing the highest quality ingredients promise not just a wonderful cup of tea, but also an enjoyable fragrance and a comforting, warm feeling.
